Many adults with Asperger Syndrome wind up receiving case management services from community based mental health systems. They are approved for services due to increases in their co-occurring mental health issues (OCD/anxiety/depression) however, many of these providers do not understand the unique differences an ASD condition creates. This presentation will help participants to understand the differences ASDs create, the language to explain this to providers and providers will learn how to empower clients with ASDs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Parents and providers will learn why standard case management support is insufficient for individuals with ASD.
  • Parents and providers will learn what facets of autism conditions demand greater focus and support.
  • Parents and providers will understand why more intensive supports may be required despite the outward appearance of the individual.
  • Participants will understand the missing facets of self-awareness needed as a foundation for progress.
