Room: 101B (Wisconsin Center )
Sondra will share from personal perspectives her own trauma accounts and how she has come to learn effective ways of coping, understanding triggers, and managing self. Sondra sits on the state level of Trauma Informed care in the state of Ohio and will share the importance of her role there.
As a person living with autism and have endured layers and layers of traumatic experiences over my life time I have come to learn this is prevelant among those with developmental disabilities and autism. We read and see daily in the news how a person of disability has been harmed, hurt, and or even killed in the process of trauma. Currently there is little research and or literature on the effects of those individuals and yet daily we are seeing first hand the effects of the trauma in individuals with autism. We currently do not have a natuional level awareness or even treatment plans or protocols in place to best help the person heal from those traumatic experiences. I hope in my presentation to bring forth awarness and to begin the discussions of the need for this major underlooked aspect of the "across the life span issue". I will share ohio's 2014 numbers of cases reported to our state level DODD. I will share my own personal impacts of how truama that was so intermeshed with autism and how trauma increased the autisitc presentation and how effective therapuetic approach to correctly address the truamas through out my life time has helped me learn coping mechanism, understanding and managing triggers, and how to be mindful of my needs. I wil share how being a part of the Trauma Informed Care Initiatives in the state of Ohio has been the most healing aspect by empowering my voice, removing the duct tape and telling my story.
