Years ago, the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) developed and validated a tool called the Supports Intensity Scale to assist in the adult planning process. Recently, AAIDD teamed with ASA to develop a tool for those with ASD. The tool has been completed and validation has begun. As the number of individuals increases and as they begin to age in adulthood, planning for future options becomes critical.  In many states, the Supports Intensity Scale developed by the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) has been used to support this planning process.  Concern that this tool was not relevant for those on the autism spectrum, AAIDD invited the Autism Society to collaborate on a new tool.   The tool has been completed, input has been gathered from both those on the spectrum and from various professionals.  In this session, attendees will be introduced to this new version of the Supports Intensity Scale and updates will be provided on the validation process.  Audience members will have the opportunity to provide input as well.  The goal is to release this tool for broader distribution.
