This panel of experts will share a broad spectrum of information surrounding Bullying of students with disabilities and the healing behind bullying. Foundational information, language, preventative measures and personal experiences will be shared by a self-advocate, parent, and other professionals in the field.

Learning Objectives:

  • • Practitioners will be able to identify the long term effects of bullying, needs for Bullying Prevention and strategies to assist those who have been bullied.
  • • Practitioners will be able to utilize free bullying prevention programing for K-12 discussed. Describe different states' means of addressing harassment, intimidation and bullying from the perspective of both the victim and the perpetrator.
  • • Identify the most effective legal and policy approaches to curtailing bullying in elementary and secondary educational settings. Be able to sensitively and fairly apply Anti-Bullying Laws and Policies to students on the autism spectrum.

Amy Goodman, M.A. Ms. Goodman is the Director of Autism Now at The Arc of the U.S. She is an individual on the autism spectrum, self-advocate, and specialist in autism. Ms. Goodman lives in West Virginia, works in Washington D.C. and has presented numerous times.

Dr. Havercroft is an Assistant Professor at Eastern Illinois University. Along with teacher preparation, Dr. Havercroft’s focus is on school-wide positive behavior supports, bullying prevention and social emotional learning strategies and outcomes.

Carole has extensive training in multi-methodologies related to both autism and deafness, and has presented numerous workshops nationwide.

Julie A. Donnelly has been a teacher and autism consultant for over 30 years. Dr. Donnelly speaks at national and international conferences and publishes in the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and special education areas. Julie is the mother of Jean-Paul Bovee, who experiences ASD.
