Writing behavior support plans can be a daunting task when trying to assure the needed elements are included and yet the plan is usable and accessible to all who have to implement it. This session will provide formats that connect to the FBA and outline the effective elements to implement. Writing behavior support plans can be a daunting task when trying to assure the needed elements are included and yet the plan is usable and accessible to all who have to implement it (Chitiyo & Wheeler, 2008; Crone & Horner, 2003).  Research indicates that support plans must be clearly related to a functional behavior assessment and that the strongest plans are developed by teams.  Studies have indicated that inclusion of both professionals with experience in behavior analysis as well as stakeholders (e.g., family, staff) who will implement the plan on a daily basis (Benazzi, Horner, & Good, 2006).  This session is designed to help participants take information from a functional behavior assessment and work with a team to develop a support plan that outlines positive behavioral supports to prevent and replace challenging behaviors as well as outlining methods for responding to the challenging behavior and monitoring progress. Methods for facilitating collaboration among teams will be discussed.  Formats for writing plans will be shared that can be used to develop a comprehensive plan that is also user-friendly for staff and family to implement.

Following this presentation, participants will be able to identify the important elements of a plan, access and use formats that include those elements, and describe strategies for collaborating with team members to develop the plan.

This session will be appropriate for practicing behavior analysts by focusing on strategies for enhancing collaboration and integrating behavior analysis with practical implementation of plans in the real-world.  It will also be appropriate for other professionals to facilitate collaboration and for families to be able to actively participate the development and review of behavior plans. Some experience and understanding of the functional behavior assessment process will be helpful.
