This presentation will focus on transferring the elements of structure and routine that are used in educational settings to community recreation and leisure activities. Photographs and video will be used to highlight these elements in a museum, summer camp, soccer activity, and library story time. This presentation will focus on transferring the elements of classroom structure, routine, and visual engineering that are used in classroom settings to community recreation and leisure activities.  Photographs and video will be used to highlight these elements in a museum, summer camps, a preschool soccer activity for children with ASD, and library story-time activities.  As a Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Quality of Life grant, visual supports were created to increase engagement and communication for the Museum of Discovery and Science to create an example of what can be done to support visitors to the museum with a child with ASD. NSU’s partnership with a number of camps provides multiple examples of how these interventions can be used in summer camp settings.  An Autism Speaks grant has supported our training and coaching of youth librarians throughout the Broward County library system.  Finally the PTO of the Baudhuin Preschool developed a Saturday morning soccer program for the students, which provided an example of how this activity can be organized to assist children with ASD to be successful in a community sports activity. This presentation is targeted to family members who can share information with community agencies in the recreation field, as well as educators and speech-language pathologists, who can provide training and support through the use of visual supports.
