This presentation will help parents, caregivers and siblings embrace both the challenges and joys of living with a sibling who has Autism Spectrum Disorder. Apropos for parents of children of all ages, a lifespan approach will be utilized with discussion on the younger sibs who may feel resentment and isolation to the older sibs who may take over the parenting role as the main caregivers age.
Learning Objectives:
- The presentation will seek to increase peer support for brothers and sisters of people with special needs and to increase parents understanding of sibling issues.
- Help aging parents prepare their non-disabled child(ren) to take over responsibilities when the time comes.
