ACTs (Autism Capacity Team and support), is a concept designed by members of the Lafayette Public School District, to handle the increasing need for support to Teachers, Parents, and Administrators within the District for their students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. This team of teachers and professionals, hand picked by the Special Education administration, travels throughout the Parish (which has 42 Schools and a Student population of over 30,000), one time a month and troubleshoots with the staff on each campus about particular students or focuses in on actual classrooms. This presentation will take the participants through the steps the team takes, the checklists they use and then finish with several case studies. Modifications will be explored that allow this particular program to be effective with students significantly challenged with autism, as well as those students with Aspergers Syndrome. Because of the nature of this presentation, a question and answer period will be provided.
