Davies and Dubie, co-authors of the recently released book Intimate Relationships and Sexual Health will give an overview of the curriculum including lessons that professionals and parents can utilize to teach the complex topics of both sex education (e.g. anatomy, reproductive health, sexual responses, partnered sex, contraception, and sexually transmitted infections) and relationships (preparing for dating, regular dating, stages of relationships, moving into longer term relationships). Plus, the more complicated socio-sexual topics of attitudes, values, sexual orientation, and sexual coercion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain awareness of the need for a curriculum on relationships and sexual health.
  • Learn how to utilize strategies that work (e.g., visual, role play, sensory integration, concrete information, and individual interests into the curriculum.
  • Learn how to break down details of relationships in order to teach complex social interactions (e.g., friendships, preparing for dating and sexual relationships).
  • Acquire practical activities specific to teach sexual health in areas such as anatomy, reproduction, contraception options, and sexually transmitted infections.
