This session presents research on sensory and movement differences experienced by individuals with autism spectrum disorder. First-person accounts and research tell us that perceptual, sensory, and movement differences contribute to stress and misunderstanding. Accommodations, stress reduction techniques, and successful supporting relationships will be highlighted in this presentation.

Jodi Robledo, Ph.D.

Dr. Jodi Robledo is an Assistant Professor in Special Education at California State University, San Marcos. She has joint referred journal publications and numerous national conference presentations. Her research interests focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders, supportive relationships, sensory and movement differences, building self-advocacy skills, and inclusive education.

Anne Donnellan, Ph.D.
Professor, Director of USD Autism Institute
University of San Diego

Anne Donnellan is a member of the PPA at ASA. She is a researcher whose work has been foundational in explicating and promoting alternatives to punishment, communicative functions of behavior and the necessity for teaching in context. She has published more than 100 books, journal articles, chapters and monographs.
