ABA-based intervention and education programs require many staff to conduct structured, 1:1 treatment sessions. The demand for trained, skilled staff will only increase as more states pass legislation requiring insurance companies to fund these services. The presenters will discuss three issues related to staff training: intensive training for newly hired paraprofessionals who are providing home-based intervention services; training for school district staff; and training supervisory-level staff to make effective modifications when learners are not acquiring target objectives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will identify key components of training for front-line instructors, tutors, and/or paraprofessionals.
  • Attendees will identify and be able to describe the components of Behavioral Skills Training.
  • Attendees will be able to describe the resources and supports required to provide effective training of ABA techniques to public school staff.
  • Attendees will be able to identify components of a training protocol to help supervisor-level staff solve problems related to deficient skill acquisition in young learners.
