The dramatic rise in autism rates cannot be accounted for by wider diagnostic criteria or increased awareness. Researchers increasing implicate environmental influences and gene environment interactions in the inception and modulation of autism. This talk will survey current research in this area, discuss proposed changes to chemical policy to protect neurodevelopment and discuss the model of autism as public health crisis outside the medical model. .
