What do medical doctors need to know about chronic anatomical problems and their impact on function? What is the impact of anatomy on physiology? What might this have to do with autism? Are there prenatal or perinatal contributions to these problems, and if so what might be done about them? What kinds of referrals can be made? What are some screening and treatment methods recommended to the pediatric and neurological communities?

Charles Smutny III, D.O., FAAO
Dr. Smutny graduated from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1994 and completed his OMM residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in 1997. Dr. Smutny is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Special Proficiency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, has re-certified under the American Osteopathic Board of Neuro-Musculoskeletal-Medicein and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (AOBNMM/OMM) , carries a Certificate of Proficiency in Osteopathy in the Cranial Academy and is licensed in Acupuncture. Hw was the former residency director of the NMM/OMM residency at North Shore University Hospital in Plainview in New York. He is Currently Director of Neuromuscular Medicine and Rehabilitation at Access Osteopathy PC. Dr. Smutny has been published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association and is a contributing author of the books, An Osteopathic Approach to Diagnosis and Treatment by Drs. Stan Schiowitz and Eileen DiGiovanna and Somatic Dysfunction in Osteopathic Family Medicine by Ken Nelson DO, FAAO and Thomas Glonek PhD.
