Since we don’t have a clear picture of the specific neurological systems driving autism, how can a neurologist take an integrative approach to evaluate and improve contributing problems? Are there non-drug interventions that can effectively target basic mechanisms to improve autistic symptoms and underlying pathologies? Given autism’s complexity and heterogeneity, how can evidence guide practitioners and how can practitioners generate evidence?

Maya Shetreat-Klein, M.D.
Dr. Maya Shetreat-Klein is an integrative pediatric neurologist, board-certified in Adult and Child Neurology as well as Pediatrics. She graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine with Special Distinction in Research for her work in autism. After completing her pediatrics and neurology training, Dr. Shetreat-Klein began University of Arizona's accredited Fellowship in Integrative Medicine in 2007. She currently works in private practice in NY and also engages in clinical research. Dr. Shetreat-Klein teaches integrative neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine as faculty and UMDNJ as visiting faculty. She lectures widely about food, toxins and neurological health.
