Presentation will address ways pragmatic comprehension and expression are established and supported by the development of world knowledge, imagination, and the ability to make inferences. The crucial role of context and generalization will be discussed.

Presenter:Diane Twachtman-Cullen, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Autism Spectrum Quarterly, Editor-in-Chief - Dr. Twachtman-Cullen, is a licensed speech-language pathologist specializing in autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Author of four books: A Passion to Believe; Trevor Trevor and How to be a Para Pro: A Comprehensive Training Manual for Paraprofessionals, How Well Does Your IEP Measure Up? Member of the “Resident Expert” team for the website Autism Today. Editor-in-Chief of Autism Spectrum Quarterly. Serves on several professional advisory boards, including the Panel of Professional Advisors of ASA.
 
This presentation will address the ways in which pragmatic comprehension and expression are established and supported by the development of world knowledge, imagination, and the ability to make inferences. The crucial role of context and generalization will also be discussed. The overall emphasis of this presentation will be on practical application of pragmatic learning activities as the foundation for meaningful word usage and communication, overall.
