Ethical Issues in Providing Behavior Analytic Services to Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Description: Providing professional behavior analytic services to persons with ASD is often accompanied by ethical challenges. These relate to the pervasive nature of ASD, the expectations of parents, service funding issues, and the close proximity to the family over time for in-home services. This session examines these and other ethical challenges.

Learning Objective(s):
-The professional behavior analyst will be able to state three of the most common ethical challenges faced when providing home based behavior analytic services to families.
-The professional behavior analyst will be able to identify the elements of the BCBA Ethical Guidelines that are most likely to present ethical challenges when providing school or agency based services to persons with ASD
-The professional behavior analyst will be able to work in a small group and resolve three ethical dilemmas that could occur when behavior analysts provide services to children with ASD.

Effective Use of Video Modeling for Learners With Autism

Description: Video modeling is a highly effective and substantiated learning tool for learners with autism. This session will discuss the process of developing and assessing a video model, from the initial targeting of a behavior through the troubleshooting process of a completed video.

Learning Objective(s):
- Attendees will be able to identify five different opportunities to incorporate video modeling into learning.
- Attendees will be understand the process of developing an appropriate and effective video model.
- Attendees will be able to identify seven different criteria to assess the effectiveness of a video model.

Stephen Lockwood, BCBA
Paramus High School

Mr. Lockwood is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a special education teacher at Paramus High School in Paramus, New Jersey as part of the LEAP program. He has worked with students with autism for the past 13 years and holds a Master's degree from The College of New Jersey.

Florida Atlantic University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD)

Jack Scott is executive director of the Florida Atlantic University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. This agency provides parents with information on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) safety with an emphasis on preventing elopement and wandering. Jack, an associate professor at FAU also teaches courses on autism and behavior analysis.
