Saturday, July 16, 2016: 10:15 AM-11:30 AM
Studio 3 (New Orleans Marriott)
This interactive and engaging session will share best practices using technology and data to develop a training program about autism for first responders. Attendees will learn how public relations, media and video technology can be used to efficiently and effectively educate a larger audience of community members.
This dynamic session will include mixed media examples and small group discussion to engage the audience in best practices with technology and social media. For those new to data and technology, this session will show how both can be utilized to expand program outreach and marketing and attendees will see firsthand how a first responder video series was developed.

The audience will leave the session confident in various technology tools, have an increased understanding of social media and technology using data as a key part of digital storytelling, and actively use technology as part of this session to provide real time feedback and data collection examples. You will leave this session inspired and interested to try new forms of technology to track and tell your story!

Content includes excerpts from a training video developed to reach a larger audience of first responders about autism, direct instruction on the process of video and content development, tips and handouts on using data to tell your story from three professionals from PR/marketing and nonprofit consulting.  By using data and technology to share the impact of autism efforts in your community, attendees will increase understanding of community outreach and how to gauge the impact of their work.  For small organizations who may not have large marketing budgets, this session will encourage and inspire you to capture data in new ways, embrace social media and technology to reach a wider audience by entwining storytelling and data. Examples of how tracking data through regular research and evaluation can lead to engaging local media to share your efforts across a wider community audience will be shared. This session will also include an in-depth discussion with examples on how other collaborative and disease specific groups have increased funding, awareness and collaborative partners using technology.
