ENVIRONMENTAL MODIFICATIONS FOR THE BEHAVIOR TEAM: PARENT AND THERAPIST COLLABORATIONS [BCBA SESSION]
Thursday, July 9, 2015: 1:15 PM-2:30 PM
Room Number: 108 (Colorado Convention Center)
Participants will gain information regarding sensory stimuli in the environment, how to link a child's challenging behavior to said stimuli and then discuss ways in which the therapy team can work together effectively to make environmental modifications that will support positive behavior outcomes.
Presenters will clarify to participants ways in which a child's challenging behavior is directly linked to sensory stimuli in their environment. The information shared will be drawn from presenters direct experience as therapists and educators, with special emphasis on BCBA practices. We will share visual examples on ways to create a sensory neutral environment as an optimal space for learning and growth.
The next objective will focus on the ways in therapists and educators can best communicate with parents about needed environmental modifications to help ease a child's sensory triggers. Again the material shared will focus mainly on BCBA practices, and offer tools for participants to utilize with their therapy teams.
Lastly, we will offer tips for parents to talk to the rest of their child's therapy team about their concerns and observations. This will result in the whole team communicating and collaborating in a manner that best benefits the child in their care, and allows the child to soar!
