3 GENERATIONS OF FEMALES WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

This presentation discusses the complex interpersonal relationships amongst 3 generations of females on the autism spectrum, sharing on interpersonal differences, generational shifts, empowerment of women, and how we define our own gifts and or challenges through individual perspectives. Sondra 52, Aimee 27, Missy 22, Delaney 9.
Females on the autism spectrum are often misunderstood and underserved. Our presentation will broaden the idea that females with autism can find marriage, long term relationships and birth and raise children on the autism spectrum with proper family and community supports.
Our presentation will share about those interpersonal relationships when autism is present amongst 3 generations of females within the same family unit. We will be discussing from personal perspectives on the complexities of those relationships, the emerging empowerment of our own sense of who we are as females, and how that it compliments and complicates the developing relationships amongst each other, as well as, how society shifting inpacts the long term relationships. This act is; a mom, two adult daughters, and one grand daughter, all living with autism. We will share the good, bad, ugly, and funny truth about living with autism from our own experiences and perspectives. laughing and tears are required.

Melissa Williams is a 21-year-old and has autism. She has attended conferences frequently with her mom. She loves to write and create poetry, and wants to someday be a speaker and advocate like her mom.

Delaney is 9 years old. She has autism. She is also speaking for her very first time.
