Using Evidence Based Practices for ASD with School Wide Impact [BCBA Session]
Friday, July 25, 2014: 1:00 PM-2:15 PM
204 (Indiana Convention Center)
This session overviews 24 evidence based practices for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as researched by the National Professional Development Center for ASD. The Indiana Resource Center for Autism will share how they have implemented professional development in schools using these practices, resulting in improved student outcomes and school wide interventions.
The Indiana Resource Center for Autism (IRCA) provides consultation and professional development within schools in Indiana. Through the use of 24 evidence-based practices, as identified by the National Professional Development Center on Autism, IRCA has trained school staff teams through evaluation of programs, targeting identified students, developing and building educational multidisciplinary teams, training/professional development, and promoting school-wide initiatives to change the culture and climate of schools. These evidence-based practices are effetive for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and also translate to school-wide positive behavior support. IRCA conducts additional training and consultations within schools, develops, and disseminates information focused on building the capacity of schools and leaders in order to support individuals as they prepare for adult transition. Staff from IRCA will share an overview of these 24 evidence-based practices and on strategies and methods for training and implementation within local schools for more successful programming for individuals on the autism spectrum.
