Journey with Julian and Obstacles Into Opportunities
Friday, July 27, 2012: 8:30 AM-10:00 AM
Atlas Ballroom (Town and Country Resort and Convention Center)
This keynote presentation will tell of two voices in autism - the father and the individual with autism. Dwayne Ballen shares his story about his family's journey with autism. When Dwayne Ballen's son Julian was diagnosed at age four, Ballen started a blog to record his thoughts and share his family's experiences. Julian has taught his parents much about life and the real meaning of success. Journey with Julian shows that in the end, it's family and fierce determination that help us all to get the most out of life. Stephen Shore will tell his story as an individual with autism from his childhood to adulthood. Going against conventional wisdom, his presentation will examine how deficits and challenges so pervasively attributed to autism can be reframed as strengths.
