On December 18, 2009, The Center for Disease Control (CDC) revised the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to 1/110 children and 1/70 boys, stating that ASD is now to be considered an urgent public health concern. Ana C Mieres is an Assistant Professor from University of South Florida. Dr. Mieres has served the ASD population for over 10 years and provided several national programs for physical therapists on ASD along with a two part program on the APTA education portal, entitled A Primer on ASD for Physical Therapy. Her work focuses on building capacity for ASD in physical therapy. Her research explores the role of physical therapy and ASD, quantitative sensory testing in ASD as a screening tool along with several systematic reviews identifying characteristics of ASD pertinent to physical therapy. Dr. Mieres is the recipient of the Unum key note award, the Academies Award, the Woodbridge Award, Jack A. Culbertson Award for Excellence and Visionary Leadership, Clinical Innovation Award, Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility, American Rehabilitation Association and Research Award, Physician Executive Board, Wake County Medical Center. She has received the several awards and recently been appointed to a national task force for ASD and Physical Therapy.
