This presentation will provide information about three projects developed by the Texas Statewide Leadership for Autism, a de-centralized project with the Texas Education Agency. This project uses the resources and expertise of the 20 Education Service Centers in Texas to provide 8 free online courses in autism spectrum disorders, a resource guide for evaluation and intervention for students with ASD and a model site program for evidence-based practices in Texas public schools.
The Texas Statewide Leadership for Autism Training Program currently has five projects. These include a website at www.txautism.net that houses all relevant materials and resources. We also work closely with other agencies in Texas related to autism. Over the course of the three years we have been operating as an arm of the Texas Education Agency, we have developed the Texas Autism Resource Guide for Effective Teaching (TARGET) that provides parents and educators information on various evaluations and interventions for students with autism. In addition, we have been charged with developing core training for educators in Texas, and the result will be eight online courses in English and Spanish available to educators and the general community. Our most recent project was collaborating with the National Professional Development Center on Autism to provide model classrooms in Texas that are providing evidence-based practices. These projects will be reviewed in the presentation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to access information about 8 free on line courses designed to provide basic information about Autism Spectrum Disorders

  • Participants will review and become familiar with the Texas Model Sites Project that is a part of the National Professional Development Center grant for evidence based practices
