Purchase AccessThe first study is a national study (n=100) of the effect of a specialized vitamin/mineral supplement on the symptoms of autism, including both children and adults. It is a 3-month, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, with extensive pre/post assessments of the symptoms of autism.
The second study is an intensive study of the nutritional status of unsupplemented children with autism (n=55) vs. unsupplemented typical children (n=45), and the effect of a specialized vitamin/mineral supplement on the children with autism. This also involves a 3-month, double-blind, placebo-controlled design, with extensive pre/post assessments of the symptoms of autism, and changes in nutritional status. The measurements of nutritional status are extensive, and include vitamins, minerals, amino acids, neurotransitters, oxidative stress, glutathione, methylation cycle, toxic metals (RBC, urine), urinary porphyrins, and more.
The studies finish by January/February 2009, and the major analysis should be completed by May 2009.
We will also briefly summarize the results of other studies (by our group and others) related to the nutritional status of children/adults with autism, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and essential fatty acids.
