Difficulties with facial recognition and expression recognition are often the most disturbing and unpleasant aspect of autism. It can cause severe anxiety and fear as well as major communication problems. It has multiple comorbities. The continuum of difficulties will be shown using video. We have developed a method of assessment and treatment that is immediate and virtually 100% successful.

Facial recognition and expression recognition problems are common in autistic spectrum disorders. There are a number of distinct types of difficulties which each form a continuum. They cause a range of difficulties which impact on relationships, communication, self awareness and emotional well being. Mapping of faces in time and space is critical and techniques will be shown in screening, and an introduction to professional assessment and management will be shown. Treatment methods will be introduced in a simple way. Early intervention methods will be discussed.
