A theorectical, conceptual, and practical approach to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children with developmental delays such as autism through a developmental relational based form of therapy known as DIR/Floor Time. Floor Time takes into consideration the actual level of the child's current state of development, while supporting any underlying individual neurologicial differences that may be impeding the child's development and utilizes the child's relationships to his/her world to assist in boosing that individual's level of functional emotional growth.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will have an introductory knowledge of play techniques to facilitate positive self-esteem in children with sensory and processig challenges commonly associated with autism.
  • Participants will have an introductory knowledge of play techniques to faciliate emotioanl regualtion and expression in children impaced by autism.
  • Participants will be familair with common parent-child issues for children with developmental delays such as autism.
  • Participants will be able to be familiar with indicators of sensory and processing challenges in theplay of children impacted by autism.

Dr. Esther Hess, a licensed psychologist specializes in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children with autism and Asperger's Disorder. Her expertise is in the application of a developmental relational play therapy model DIR/Floor Time as devised by Stanley Greenspan. Dr. Hess has a private practice in West Los Angeles.
