| #3484- Lifespan Services for Adults with Autism; Who, What, Why and How | |||
| Services for adults with autism have never kept up with the need for such services. Now, with epidemic levels of autism being diagnosed, children with autism will be in even greater jeopardy when they age out of the education system.
This presentation will address the variables that affect services for adults and models of service that have proven effective. | |||
| Presenters: | - Dr. David L. Holmes, is a Board Certified Forensic Examiner; He is immediate past president and founder of The Eden Family of Services and past chair of the ASA's Panel of Professional Advisors. Dr. Holmes is a national award-winning author, most notably, Autism through the Lifespan-The Eden Model.
- Michael started working for Autism Services Center in 1985 as a Direct Care Staff and is now, with the retirement of its' founder, Dr. Ruth Sullivan, ASC's CEO. Mr. Grady received his Master’s Degree in psychology from Marshall University in Huntington, WV. - Mark VanVoorst is the President and CEO of Lifespire, Inc. Lifespire is a multistate lifespan service agency with headquarters in NYC. Mr. VanVoorst received his Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary | ||

Children with autism become adults. Some require no unusual services upon exiting the education system others, require a life time of services from supported living to employment and geriatric. This session will address models of services that have demonstrated fidelity over many decades; offering state of the art services for adults with autism. Throughout the presentation questions will be taken from the attendees in order to personalize the session and make it more functional. The session will address: Who are those with autism that might require services throughout their life; What types of services are necessary to meet the broad range of needs identified for those with autism; Why such services are in such limited supply; and, How to ensure that more services are developed quickly to meet the ever widening gap between those that need services and service availability. |
