Autism brings me both strong abilities and challenges in life, and how I to utilize and or overcome some of these barriers.
What many refer to as behaviors may be our only way to communicate non-verbally our own needs, wants, and desires. These non verbal attempts are unique to each individual, it is important to learn of the non-verbal language each of us presets as our own unique dialect.
How to include persons of spectrum as board/ or committee members as an equal member, not as a disabled member.
My presentaion will describe ways to help enhance the knowledge of internal awareness of self through giving and modeling the correct words for people of spectrum so they can begin to be aware of how to communicate to others in a more effective fashion that is understood.
I hope to teach parents and professionals how to read the non verbal cues and attempts to communicate that many of us on spectrum may present, although unique to each person not unique to autism across the board.
Lastly I will share some tips in how to include people of spectrum in supportive ways among boards or committees and how to utilize their skills and treat them as an EQUAL member not as a special member or disabled member.
Learning Objectives:
- how to interpret, clarify and correctly understand our attempts to communicate to others
- to help explain some of the symptoms of autism also termed as behavior
- how to successfully include people of spectrum on boards and committees as an equal member of the group
- will increase awareness of how to read the non verbal language of individuals with autism
- to increase awareness with insight to the abilities and challenges of autism spectrum
