2010 National Conference Call for Papers Underway

The Autism Society’s 41st National Conference and Exposition will be held July 7-10, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas in Dallas, Texas.

If you wish to submit a proposal to present at one or more sessions of our 2010 conference, please note the following important information:

  • Submissions will only be accepted via the Autism Society Online Abstract System. If you are unable to submit online, please email Technical Support.
  • A disclosure form (identifying potential conflicts of interest) will be required for all presentations. Please note the Autism Society conference presentations cannot promote or advertise a commercial product or service without disclosure. All presentations will be permitted at the discretion of the Autism Society.
  • Submissions may have up to 4 presenters butonly two presenters per submission will receive a speaker discount. All presenters submitting need to be present at the conference.

Please read ALL instructions below before submitting your work for review.

DEADLINE: Wednesday, December 30, 2009 — 11:59 PM Pacific Time

NOTIFICATIONS WILL BE SENT BY FEBRUARY 1, 2010.

Proposed format: To be considered for acceptance, proposals must include the following:

Presentation title: 12 words maximum

Speaker information: Include complete titles, degrees and certifications, mailing address, phone, fax, and e-mail for each presenter involved in this proposal.

Biographical summary for each presenter: 50 words maximum. Summarize the presenter’s background/experience in the area in which they would like to present. May be used for publication and is subject to editing by the Autism Society.

Conference program description: 80 word maximum, subject to editing by the Autism Society.

Session content plan (abstract): This description must provide information that is essential to the review process. The plan should include: details on the content that will be provided, learning objectives, and sufficient information to determine how the session contributes to best practice and advances the field of autism spectrum disorders. Presenters who want their session to be considered for continuing education units must clearly describe how the presentation is appropriate for a targeted professional audience. Suggested word length for the abstract is 500-2,000 words.

Upon acceptance, all presenters are strongly encouraged to upload their handouts to the Autism Society Abstract System prior to the conference. These handouts will be made available online to all conference attendees prior to the conference. The Autism Society will not make copies of handouts for sessions. PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY:

All sessions are 75 minutes long. Speakers do not need to be members of the Autism Society to submit, to have their work accepted or to present. Presenters will be required to submit materials in electronic format for the conference proceedings.

It is advised that any video be incorporated into your PowerPoint presentation. The use of VCRs, DVDs or video that is not part of the PowerPoint presentation is not recommended or encouraged. Please be sure that you have appropriate permissions to utilize the video of adults or children.

The Autism Society will not provide DVD players or other AV equipment in your session room beyond a lavaliere and a wired lectern microphone, an LCD projector, laptop computer and screen. If audio needs to be presented, the request for a patch will need to be made in advance through the Hyatt Regency Dallas Audio Visual Department and is the financial responsibility of the speakers.

Presenters will be responsible for the rental costs of DVD players, flip-charts, or any non-standard equipment as listed above. Presenters will not be allowed to bring their own additional equipment, like a DVD player, but will, with advance notice, be able to utilize their own laptop. If no advance notice is received by the Autism Society, any additional hook-up costs will be the responsibility of the presenter(s).

The Autism Society does not provide multiple microphones for "panel" presentations, floor microphones in concurrent sessions for Q & A, wireless microphones, paper flip charts, etc. or special seating sets. All rooms will be set Theater Style with a Head Table for Three and a Lectern. There will be a raised stage/podium, if appropriate.


Review Process:

Each proposal will be reviewed by a panel of qualified individuals. Selections are based on quality and practicality of the proposed material and the need for a balanced program. All presenters must register for the conference, and have to cover their own travel costs. Two lead speakers per session will receive a 50% discount on the conference registration.


Please note:

Upon acceptance, presenters will be required to provide additional information to facilitate their presentation and to confirm adherence to the Autism Society’s 41st Conference policies. All submissions that are used for Autism Society publications including the Conference Program are subject to review and editing. Submissions that do not include all the information requested above will not be considered for review. Upon acceptance, presenters grant the Autism Society permission to use their material in future publications by the Autism Society without charge or royalty.

Submitters and presenters will be automatically emailed with the ID numbers and passwords assigned to their proposals. Proposals may be viewed and modified at any time between submission and the deadline, using the assigned ID number and password.
