John, a 37 year old man with Asperger says, "For years, I felt that I was just a Lighthouse in a bog. incredibly bright, maybe brilliant, but useless". Many adults and teens with Asperger and HFA can identify with this statement. Often very bright, having great insights and skills, but hindered by a lack of social and relationship building skills, it has been a struggle to find direction in life. It has been difficult to plan a course of action leading to career and personal satisfaction.
The Ansell-Casey Lifeskills Tools have been adapted successfully to be used as an assessment, planning and self-determination tool for this population. Over the years, many teens and adults on the spectrum have been able to find meaningful insights into career and "life" paths based on understanding of what skills are lacking; which are necessary; and how does a meningful learning plan get created.
